🚲 Ilford Town Centre SNT – Joint Cycling and E-Bike Enforcement Operation
On 30 January 2026, Ilford Town Safer Neighbourhood Team, working in partnership with other SNT wards across Ilford, carried out a joint enforcement operation in Ilford Town Centre.
The aim of this operation was to address ongoing concerns around cyclists riding on the pavement and the use of illegal e-bikes, both of which present a safety risk to pedestrians, shoppers, commuters, and other town centre users. This activity forms part of Ilford Town ward priorities to improve safety and prevent incidents involving cyclists within the town centre.
Officers were deployed in high-footfall areas and engaged with cyclists to provide advice around road safety and legal requirements. Where offences were identified, enforcement action was taken.
As a result of the operation: 6 illegal e-bikes were seized due to non-compliance with legal regulations
In addition to enforcement, officers spoke with members of the public, providing reassurance and responding to local concerns about cyclist behaviour in the town centre. The operation also helped increase police visibility and gather intelligence to support future activity.
Ilford Town SNT will continue to work closely with neighbouring wards and partner teams to carry out both engagement and enforcement operations, ensuring Ilford Town Centre remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone who lives, works, and visits the area.
